The digits from tenth to 17th may also contain additional information like features or options installed inside the vehicle.

The VIN code is a serial code with six digits that identify an automobile or truck. The final digit is also the check number and the other digits are transliterated to numbers. For instance the first digit is given eight, the next digits increase by one until it reaches nine at the seventh digit, which then changes to two. Then, the whole VIN is transformed back into its original form by multiplying each digit's weight by 11. If the result is identical to the check digit then the VIN will be valid.
